Office buildings like these can still be found in Hamburg’s harbor. Today these buildings are very popular when converted into an apartment building. In the past here the formalities were handled while in the warehouses next to the office building barrels and boxes were loaded on and off trucks, wagons and ships. Workers often had to come by barges to their workplace because in many cases the waterway was faster and shorter than overland. At a pier like this a little wharf shouldn’t be missing. The traffic of the quayside railway and the tightness of the place often made a turning platform necessary. Wagon by wagon was turned here and moved to the next pier.

The loading dock shouldn’t be missing in any port facility
Our model shows a typical warehouse of the 1930s. Usually the quay would be full of barrels, boxes, trucks, transporters, wagons and of course works. Cranes would be working day and night unload the ships
This kit contains eight dockside cranes: Four portal cranes and four semi-portal cranes which are to be attached to a warehouse or shelter. These cranes were typically built in the 1920s and 1930s, but they were used for decades and could be found in Hamburg harbor nearly until the end of the 20th century
