Novík was a destroyer of the Russian Imperial Navy, commissioned in 1913 where she served with the Baltic Fleet during World War I. She joined the Bolsheviks in November 1917 and was later renamed Yakov Sverdlov
The project of a fast cruiser with displacement of 4500 tons, created by the engineer I.A. Gavrilov (1873-1968), was considered in the Maritime Technical Committee in 1904 and was published in the magazine "Maritime Digest" in 1905-1906.
USS Vesuvius is a prototype gunboat (sometimes it is called "dynamite gun cruiser"). During its construction it was weaponed with three unmovable pneumatic guns, installed in the bow part. With the help of compressed air from a (70 atm) reservoir the shells, equipped with wet guncotton, were fired from those dynamite guns.
The vessel "Baikal" (with ship rig of a brigantine) was built in 1848 in Helsingfors for delivery of cargo to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky for the Russian-American company.
